If you’re attending the 2017 Underwater Intervention exhibit between February 21-23 in New Orleans, LA, make sure to stop by booth #229 to say hello to Hy-Lok USA.
Underwater Intervention is a not-for-profit industry conference and exhibition, jointly owned by the Association of Diving Contractors International and the
ROV Committee of the Marine Technology Society.
Until the early 1990’s, these two non-profit, professional organizations hosted separate conferences – ROV Intervention and the Diving Symposium.
The increased common ground between the commercial diving and ROV (remotely operated vehicles) industries created an atmosphere ripe for a merger of the two conferences. In 1993, the first Underwater Intervention was hosted in San Diego, California. Now, 22 years later, Underwater Intervention has grown to encompass more industries in addition to Commercial Diving and Remotely Operated Vehicles. The exhibit now includes Manned Submersibles, Instruments and Sensors, Sonar and Acoustics, Ocean Engineering, Marine Salvage and Shipwrecks, AUV and UUV Technology.
Again, Hy-Lok USA will be exhibiting again this year at the 2017 Underwater Intervention exhibit, you can visit our booth #229 on February 21-23 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA.
We hope to see you there!

The Permian Basin:
The United States oil and gas industry has relied on the Permian Basin for energy production for nearly 100 years. West Texas is endowed with rock and solid infrastructure that’s ideal for shifting production to market, which is why top producers are investing in this lucrative region.
DUG attendees understand the best ways to navigate fluctuating commodity cycles, and have consequently moved their priorities from land-grab strategies to efficiency-based drilling programs in the Permian Basin. This strategic move corresponds with new discoveries of oil in unconventional formations and applications of unconventional drilling and completion techniques, among other significant industry changes.

From self-driving cars to fully electric cars, we’ve seen many technical advances in the automotive industry the last few years. All of this hard work by designers and engineers also means releases of the latest hydrogen fuel cell models.
Hyundai released news of a 400- to 500-mile SUV with a hydrogen fuel cell design due out in 2020, after its fuel cell debut in 2015.
The crossover vehicle was first seen in California as the Tuscon with a 265-mile range. The team may also have in the works a Kia fuel-cell to live on the same style platform as the future SUV model.
California also debuted the 2016 Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel-cell with its first delivery in the Sacramento area.
The first drivers were based on how close they lived to fueling stations. The vehicle is the first of its kind for sale, not just for lease. The Mirai, meaning future, refuels in about five minutes with a range of approximately 300 miles.
Honda brings us the Clarity Fuel Cell, which goes on sale later this year. Again, it will only be available in California, due to its current hydrogen fueling capabilities compared to other states.
The four-door sedan feels like a normal vehicle, but it boasts 174 horsepower and 221 foot-pounds of torque with an integrated power unit sitting at the front axis, making space for a fuel cell stack.
This mixes compressed hydrogen with oxygen to generate electricity, which feeds a lithium-ion battery pack and powers the motor.
The Audi Q5 HFC already debuted in 2009, but the luxury sport brand plans to bring style to fuel cell with a more updated design and more efficient fuel cell stack. Its existing car featured a compact lithium-ion battery and 90 kw of output.
Working in fuel cell for more than a decade, Audi hasn’t officially released what it will be working on for fuel cell this year. In that same vein, Lexus unveiled the Lexus LF-FC concept car with the fuel stack at the rear, control unit in front and hydrogen tanks in a T-shape for the best weight distribution.
Hydrogen fuel cell cars take hydrogen gas and power an electric motor, combining hydrogen and oxygen to create electricity that then runs the motor.
Considered electric vehicles since they are powered only by electricity, they are more similar to conventional cars because of their refueling and range.
In a fuel cell car, tailpipe pollution is eliminated since byproducts of the gas to electricity conversion are only heat and water. Though hydrogen production can lead to pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, fuel cell cars still reduce emissions by more than 30 percent compared to traditional gas-powered vehicles.
For now, to own or lease this type of car requires the driver to be close to hydrogen fueling stations.
Here, pressurized hydrogen is sold and takes about 10 minutes to fill existing models. The refuel is faster than recharging a battery and offers better driving ranges before the next fueling.
Designed to be completely compatible with hydrogen fuel cell technology, our 316 stainless steel parts are certified to work in pressures up to 6,000 psig.
Since the conversion of biomasses into biofuels in liquid or gas form can be complicated, we know how to work with you for your project–and guarantee certified quality and safety in our products. Contact us to learn more about our alternative fuel fittings.
